Rebecca and Neil love Lego and are selling their home.

Bricks and mortar brought Rebecca and Neil together, but it was Lego bricks that helped them build a foundation for friendship, love and family.

Rebecca purchased the property at 58 Davenport Street at Dickson in 2006. Soon after moving in she introduced herself to Neil, who was renting the house next door at number 60.

“I went over there, did the friendly thing and introduced myself and before too long he was in between housemates, so we said why don’t we get together and have some takeaway and watch some TV once a week.

Quaint and colourful.

“Long story short, we had some local Chinese, watched some ABC quiz shows and then connected over Lego.”

Rebecca recalls spotting a Lego pirate ship on a bookshelf at Neil’s place one day. She had recently found her own childhood Lego collection, and was in the process of rebuilding all the sets she had played with as a young girl.

“Turns out Neil had done exactly the same thing – his parents had given him his childhood Lego collection and he was putting it all back together.

Outdoors is perfect for entertaining.

“So we decided to do it together and did a bit of swapsies,” says Rebecca.

One thing led to another, and the Lego dates soon led to a romantic relationship.

Neil moved into number 58 and the couple later started a family.

They lovingly renovated and extended the duplex in 2013, to cater for their family of four.

The upper level houses three bedrooms with views over the front courtyard and tree-lined street, while the master bedroom downstairs has an ensuite.

Lots of grass.

The home has a playful facade with coloured timber panelling. There is an open plan living and dining area, as well as a second living room, which opens out to the garden.

The backyard heralds a cubby house constructed from material salvaged from the main house, and there is a powered shed and rainwater tank.

The family is selling the well-loved home to spend more time in the country.

The property – marketed by Holly Komorowski from home by holly – will go to auction on 4 April at 12.15pm.
