REMINISCENT of a classic romantic film set, this palatial mansion fit for a movie star wouldn’t be out of place in the Hollywood Hills. Yet, here it is in suburban Brisbane.

This stunner in Chandler shows the coronavirus crisis isn’t stopping some sellers from putting their homes on the market.

One of Brisbane’s most extravagant estates — 652 London Road — has just been listed for sale after receiving a $1 million makeover by its movie producer owner.

The house is expected to attract expats taking advantage of the weak Australian dollar.

The Georgian-inspired residence has seven bedrooms and six bathrooms, complete with a helipad, marble statues and staircases, a pond with a custom dolphin fountain, a porte cochere and a state-of-the-art security system — all on 1ha of acreage just 13km south of the CBD.

The property features baroque marble statues, staircases and flooring.

“It definitely has LA vibes,” marketing agent Joseph Lordi of McGrath Estate Agents said.

“You could see it on a hilltop somewhere in Hollywood.

“There are only so many homes in Brisbane where you walk in and go; ‘Wow’.”

Expats eager to take advantage of the weak Australian dollar are already lining up to get their cheque books out.

“It could definitely be a celebrity or an expat wanting to keep their money in Australia with what’s going on with COVID-19,” Mr Lordi said.

“With the dollar being so low, we’re expecting expat buyers to come and see the property, and a strong Chinese market should also have interest, based on the style of property.”

But Mr Lordi said he had also received interest from local buyers.

Records show the property last sold for $3.85 million in October 2018, but the current owner has since given the home a makeover worth more than $1 million.

“It was supposed to be a long-term residence, but now he needs to move back overseas,” Mr Lordi said.
