IT might be an impossible ask to find a B&B in a finer position than Harpers on the Beach.

Jill and Jonathan Mills have owned the White Beach property for about a decade, with the couple building the main house next to a classic

two-bedroom beach house.

The property now offers three queen-sized bedrooms with ensuites in the main dwelling, a self-contained studio and the cottage, too.

Jonathan said White Beach was a perfect position from which to run a tourism business.

“You could not get a better spot than ours, just 30 paces from one of Tasmanian’s most beautiful beaches — it is a wonderful place,” he said.

“We are also 10 minutes from Port Arthur, or a couple more minutes from the Three Capes Track or the Pennicott Wilderness Journeys, and it’s just an hour and a quarter to Hobart.”

The Mills family property offers a stylish beach home in its main residence with five bedrooms, four bathrooms and two living areas.

A large deck with a spa is located on the top floor.

The spacious living room here is outstanding with its wide, uninterrupted water views and beautiful fireplace.

In the kitchen there is gas cooking, plenty of bench and cupboard space, as well as a breakfast bar.

The studio apartment has an attached carport, storage, a deck on the water side and a brick pizza oven.

The cottage features a deck, a living, dining and kitchen zone, and a bathroom positioned between each bedroom, one on the water side of the property.

Luxurious comfort.

White Beach offers easy access to boating and fishing activities, bushwalking and bike riding.

Jonathan said he imagines the next owner will probably want to continue running the successful holiday accommodation business, “but you never know”.

“It might appeal to a large family, or someone who wants to keep their parents close by in their own space in the cottage,” he said.

“As a business, Harpers on the Beach is almost too popular, if that is possible. Any time it is open, it’s fully booked.”

For Jill and Jonathan, visiting Tasmania was a life-changing experience.

Originally from Scotland and England, the couple had spent a few years in the sweltering heat of Queensland before holidaying on the Apple Isle.

“We fell in love with the place and quickly moved here within months,” Jonathan said.

The couple have operated two highly regarded B&Bs at White Beach, but are now looking to retire.

“When I moved to Australia from the US, friends did not know where Tasmania was,” Jonathan said.

“But it has become a hot spot for tourism in the last 15 years, it has been a radical change.”
